One of the almost democratic French male vocalists of all time (blackball the inevitable Jacques Brel), Michel Sardou is without doubtfulness the best-selling, with tens of millions of albums sold and a string of more than than 25 straight hit singles. Though his songwriting hind end barely be compared to the brainiac of Brel, Sardou has frequently written solid, impact-driven songs which illustrate his political and social views without fear of popular compromise. He has too unheeded the prospect of international audience, preferring quite to focus his attention and artistic ability on his mother country.
Sardou began recording in the mid-'60s and come to the charts for the number one time by the work of the 10, with a contract for Tréma Records. Despite popular success, Sardou continued to spell and sing songs which courted disceptation. "Le France" was an overt criticism of the government for marketing a luxury cruise ocean liner, a national treasure; "Je Suis Pour" featured his views on giving the death penalty to tyke murderers. By the tardy '80s, Sardou had sold near 30 gazillion records, near all in France. He remained vastly democratic into the succeeding decennium, routinely merchandising millions each year.
